Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya's most popular safari destinations, and for good reason. The park offers the quintessential African image: vast herds of elephants moving gracefully across the open plains with the snow-capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro rising dramatically in the background.
Amboseli is home to some of the largest elephant herds in Africa, and the park's open terrain makes for exceptional wildlife photography. The Amboseli elephants are among the most studied in the world, and many individuals are known by name to the researchers who have followed them for decades.
Beyond elephants, Amboseli offers excellent sightings of lion, cheetah, hyena, zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe. The Observation Hill provides panoramic views across the park and the Kilimanjaro massif. Swamp areas attract large flocks of flamingos and other water birds.
