The Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya's most celebrated wildlife sanctuary and one of Africa's greatest natural wonders. Covering 1,510 square kilometres of open savannah in southwestern Kenya, the Mara is home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife year-round.
The reserve is famous for the annual Great Wildebeest Migration — the largest terrestrial mammal migration on Earth — when over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra, and 350,000 gazelle pour across the Mara River from Tanzania's Serengeti in a dramatic spectacle of survival. Witnessing a river crossing, with crocodiles lurking below, is one of the most thrilling wildlife experiences in the world.
Beyond the migration, the Mara offers exceptional year-round game viewing. Lion prides are frequently spotted on kills, cheetah families race across the open plains, and leopards rest in acacia trees. The Mara is also home to large herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, and hippo.
